This downloadable torrent is a season of the show "Smallville" in 720p using H264. The season includes 22 episodes with subtitles on all of them. The producers were finally able to get their act together for this first season, and they did so in many ways. For starters, Tom Welling was cast as Clark Kent, and he immediately works well with the cast and crew—there’s an honesty to his performance that makes it feel more realistic than any other portrayal on television before or since then. The second season of Lois and Clark had shown that it wasn’t exactly the most realistic of shows, where Clark would spend most of his daytime hours (in his outfit) talking to Lois, but the way they work together on here is credible. That’s also true of Laura Vandervoort as Kara. When she first appeared, she wasn’t exactly what one would call a believable character—most likely because this was at the time before Smallville was doing all it could to correct that sort of thing. Even then, though, she worked incredibly well with Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk. Speaking of which, the first season began an ongoing story that would be told across almost all ten seasons of the show. As with Superman Returns, there were people who saw the first movie, liked it for some reason, and then went ahead and picked up on where that movie left off. This is one of those cases. The second reason it works so well is because the show was finally given some decent production values to work with—it didn’t have to worry about budget constraints as much anymore. That’s not to say they were able to pull off some amazing CGI effects or anything like that, but they did what they could with what they had, and it worked out pretty well for them. The character of Lex Luthor is well-played by Michael Rosenbaum, and he’s given just enough material to work with before the show finally showed him in all his glory in season three. By that point, he was able to play the role much more effectively than the way he did here. Also, keep your eye out for John Glover as Lionel Luthor—he’s always great in this sort of role. If there’s one issue with this show, it’s that it has a tendency to get a little melodramatic at times for its own good. Smallville was never at all concerned with the kind of gritty realism that had been the hallmark of its predecessor, and it (somehow) still managed to hold itself together fairly well even at times like these. So, if you’re curious for another Clark Kent/Superman story, this is a good place to start. It’s not an amazing piece of television from any corner of view, but there are enough interesting things going on here for it to be worth a download anyway.
